You must first enable this at the global level.
Security → Data Masking → Chat → General → Enable Data Masking
Security → Data Masking → Chat → General → Can be Reset at the Department Level
The Session timeout for the ECE application (and I believe the ECE Gadget) is 60 mins.
To increase this go to:
Partition → General Setting → Session Time Out (minutes)
Defaults to US format & EST timezone?
