High Level Tasks

Pre

Prepare for DR - Chances are a switch version will work just fine if upgrade fails but if not a rebuild will be required
Ensure last backup has run successfully →OS Administration → Disaster Recovery
Have a CUCM 7.1.x install DVD and any upgrades/firmwares/locales on your laptop
Check RTMT
- Server health: CPU/Memory/Partition
- Latest alerts
- Registered Devices and Distribution of devices
- take a screen shot so you can verify when you are done DB Replication
Record all Device Default Firmware’s – you will need to revert these after upgrading the PUB
- Copy and paste the firmware names into a word doc or save as htm fileso you are sure of accuracy when adding them back in
Have a quick look on support forums to see if anyone has hit any issues on similar upgrade – www.cisco.com/go/netpro
Check SCCP version of Unity ports ok – should be
Review the release notes for version you are going to for upgrade advise and any gotcha’s

Turn off EM

Switch version into upgraded partition when ready on Pub
Once up and running change all Device Default Firmware back to originals – only needs to be done after Pub upgrade
Verify server health of Pub…others may not be available
Switch version on other Subs – note here that calls between devices registered to servers on different versions of CUCM may not work due to SDL being broken so plan to always have all the phones on one version or the other.
